Panthers, Falcons Headline Strong NFC South

According to our Week 6 BES Conference Report, no other division in the NFC has been more competitive than the NFC South. The division has a BES Overall score of 2.69 which is second only to  a power-packed AFC East (2.79) that leads all divisions in strength.

With the Falcons (5-1) ranked No. 2 and the Panthers (5-0) placing seventh in BES Overall, it’s not at all difficult to imagine  either team representing the NFC in the Super Bowl.

Atop the division sits the Panthers who are fresh off an impressive road win over the defending NFC Champion Seahawks (2-4). Quarterback Cam Newton’s game-winning toss to tight end Greg Olsen arguably cemented the Panthers as a viable contender.

Meanwhile, the Falcons, despite suffering an upset at the hands of the divisional rival Saints (2-4) in Week 6, have been as impressive. They boast a clean sweep of the NFC East (2.49) capped by a thrilling, come-behind-win over the Redskins (2-4) in Week 5.

Although the Saints and Buccaneers (2-3) are both currently below .500, it’s clear the division’s Champion will likely finish better than the 7-8-1 record the Panthers won the division with in 2014. Also, with 11 weeks remaining in the regular season, neither the Saints nor the Buccaneers can be completely ruled out of the race for the divisional crown just yet.
