Week 11 BES Rankings

FAQ

With just six weeks of regular season football remaining in 2015, the mad dash toward the postseason is officially underway. If you’ve been following the BES rankings throughout the season, you’ve likely found they can function as a measurement of momentum or “heat”. As you’ll see  in this week’s rankings, there are definitely a few teams heating up at the perfect time.

The Chiefs (5-5)  won four consecutive games to reach .500 after a dismal 1-5 start. Their last two wins over the Broncos (8-2) in Week 10 and the Chargers (2-8) in Week 11 have propelled them from No. 13 in our Week 10 rankings, to No. 4 this week.  The Chiefs are arguably the hottest team in the league, anchored by a defense that features this week’s highest Point Suppression score (3.34) and ranks No. 1 in the BES.

The Panthers (10-0) move up to the No. 2 spot after a complete, 44-14 obliteration of the Redskins (4-6) in Week 11. The Panthers join the Chiefs as the only teams to rank among the top-5 in both BES Offense and BES Defense this week. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has thrown 20 touchdowns and just nine interceptions while leading a team with the highest Point Yield score (3.30) in this week’s rankings.

New to the BES Top-10 are the Texans (5-5) who are presently tied for first place in the AFC South after compiling a 4-1 record in their last five games. That stretch includes  a Week-10 upset over the Bengals and a commendable 24-17 victory over a resilient Jets (5-5) team in Week 11. Of note, the Texans rank No. 7 in BES Overall (2.93), BES Offense (2.69) and BES Defense (2.71). How’s that for balance?

Joining the Texans as new additions to the BES Top-10 are the Buccaneers (5-5) fresh off a thoroughly dominant, 45-17 road conquest of the Eagles (4-6). Ranked No. 8 in BES Overall, the Buccaneers will travel to face the Colts (5-5) in Week 12, before hosting the Saints (4-6) and Falcons (6-4) in Weeks 13 and 14 respectively. All three are pivotal outings as the Buccaneers are just one-game out of second place in the NFC South.

The Patriots (10-0) now have seven weeks under their belt as the top dog in the BES. They’ve gotten stronger with a score of 3.38 this week after registering a 3.33 last week. Injuries, however, are starting to slow their offense though it is still No. 1 in the BES, a position it has held quite comfortably since the Week-3 issue of our rankings. They will travel to face the Broncos (No. 13) in Week 12 for a game crucial to their quest to secure home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

  4. Football Outsiders has been around a LONG time, they have the Chiefs No. 6 with the No. 7 Defense. So, from a more established source, you get a similar take on the Chiefs. They measure season-long effectiveness. The BES Report measures momentum so it tells you how well a team is playing right NOW. Chiefs are playing a much higher level of football than they were earlier in the season – Dez http://www.footballoutsiders.com/dvoa-ratings/2015/week-11-dvoa-ratings#comment-1010594

  5. Yes, Michael Wayne Allen , this will definitely be a test for the Chiefs. Bills defense is impressive up front and offensively they have some potent weapons. Looks like a game where the team that makes the fewest mistakes and takes better care of the football should come away with the ‘W’. Chiefs have some SUPER momentum with homefield advantage. HUGE plus.
