Week 3 BES Rankings

One measure of the quality of power rankings is how accurate they are in predicting game outcomes.

The BES was 10-6 (.625) in Week 3, winning by an average of 16.5 points while losing by an average of 10.3 points. Overall, it was a very solid showing for the BES.

As for this week’s rankings, a glance at the top-10 reveals some familiar postseason combatants as only the Falcons (No. 3) and Jets (No. 7) failed to make the playoffs a year ago.

Of note, the Falcons’ come-from-behind over the Cowboys (No. 9) propelled them into the Top-5, up three spots from sixth place in our Week 2 Rankings.

Meanwhile, the Romo-less Cowboys find themselves teetering near the edge of the Top-10. Joining them are the Steelers (No. 10) who lost quarterback Ben Roethlisberger to a sprained MCL and bone bruise for an unspecified amount of time.

The Vikings (No. 11) are knocking at the door of the Top-10 but might be greeted by a bouncer in the form of the No. 1-ranked Broncos who host the Vikings in Week 4. We recently discussed the dynamics of that matchup.

It’ll be interesting to see how things play out as these teams continue their trek through the season’s first half.

  1. Chiefs are not even on the top 10!! what rank are we talking about here???

    • They are 1-2 coming off two consecutive losses. That won’t get you into the top 10. That’s a tough group to get into in regards to the BES. A win over the Bengals in Week 4 would definitely help their cause. But the Bengals (No. 5) are playing some impressive football and will host the Chiefs (No. 17). It’ll be tough.
