Week 3 Detox – Brady’s Bloodthirst, Julio Acts a Foolio

NFL Sundays are a dizzying whirlwind of emotional highs and lows, over saturation of information and a lingering emotional state of victory or defeat.

In our inaugural issue of Detox, we attempt to purge the lingering effects of Sunday in the form of a few random thoughts on yesterday’s action.

Another Ugly Win for the Broncos
But it was a beautiful one for their defense. The unit held the Detroit Lions in check while Manning carried the offense with 324 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns.

Still it was far from a dominant  victory. The score was 14-12 well into the fourth quarter before Broncos kicker Brandon McManus hit a 48-yard field goal with 7:50 remaining in the game. How much longer can they keep this up? At some point the Broncos offense will need to establish leads earlier in games or the defense may find itself worn down in the latter half of the season.

Raiders For Real?
Many outside of Raider Nation likely entered the 2015 season thinking the Raiders (2-1) would be a team easily dismissed and cast aside. But after 12 years of averaging five wins per season, one dares to ask are they legit? The answer is yes.

They feature a young, talented quarterback in Derek Carr who is armed with workhorse halfback Latavius Murray and explosive  receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree.

Defensively they have a tenacious front-7 led by second-year terror Khalil Mack at defensive end. The entire team feeds off the leadership of future Hall of Fame safety Charles Woodson.

Those are the ingredients for success. Will they win the division? Doubtful. But they appear to be a far cry from the 3-13 squad they were in 2014. Take notice NFL. The Silver and Black might be back.

The Boys and Birds Didn’t Disappoint
We previewed the Falcons @ Cowboys as our BES Game of Week 3 and it was exactly that.

The Falcons scored 22 unanswered points to win 39-28 after being down 14-28 at halftime. Things were quiet yesterday at AT&T Stadium  and it was Falcons receiver Julio Jones who imposed the gag order, ripping the Cowboys defense for 12 catches, 164 yards and two, win-sealing touchdowns.

Brady on a Warpath
The Jaguars have Ted Wells and Roger Goodell to thank for the 51-17 spanking they suffered at the hands of the Patriots yesterday.

Make no mistake about it, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is out for blood after his name, legacy and reputation were tarnished by the league’s failed Deflate-Gate investigation. After just three games, Brady has completed 72% of his throws for 1,112 yards and nine touchdowns with zero interceptions.

Those are frightening numbers. For Halloween the assumption is Brady shows up in a hockey mask and wielding a machete as ‘Gentle Tom Brady’ because the Brady wearing No. 12 on Sundays is the real killer.
