Week 4 BES Rankings

In terms of being predictive, the Week 3 BES Rankings were 10-5 in Week 4. It’ll be interesting to see how  that holds up for the remainder of the season but it does illustrate, to some extent at least, that the BES is accurate.

As for this week’s rankings, there are no changes to report in terms the No. 1 BES Overall team as the Eagles (3-0), despite being on a Week 4 bye, held the top spot by a hair. With a score of 3.63, the Eagles held off the Vikings (4-0) who registered a 3.62 after a demonstrative 24-10 victory over the Giants (2-2).

After being completely obliterated by the Steelers (3-1) 43-14, the Chiefs (2-2) found their stay among the BES Top-10 to be short-lived as they plummeted from No. 8 to No. 15 and saw their BES Overall score drop from 2.86 to 2.50. They will have a bye in Week 5 to resolve whatever ails caused them to get steamrolled in Pittsburgh.

Two other AFC West teams, however, have seen a rise up the rankings, including one that joined the BES Top-10 for the first time this season. The Raiders (3-1) rose from No. 13 to No. 8 after a thrilling 28-27 road victory over the Ravens (3-1). Meanwhile, the Broncos (4-0) moved into the No. 3 slot from No. 4, replacing the Patriots (3-1) who were shutout 16-0 at home by the Bills (2-2) and thus slipped to No. 5.

Elsewhere in the top-10, the Falcons (3-1) rose from No. 9 to No. 6 after a record-setting 48-33 defeat of the Panthers (1-3). Quarterback Matt Ryan’s 500+ yards passing and receiver Julio Jones’ 300+ yards catching  against a very respectable Panthers defense is a perfect example of just how volatile their offense has been this season.

Another noteworthy ascent in the rankings this week is that of the Redskins (2-2) who were  No. 32 in our Week 2 rankings but have since risen to No. 21. On the arm of quarterback Kirk Cousins, the Redskins are averaging 287 yards passing yards per game which ranks fifth in the league. But they’ll need better play from their 30th ranked BES Defense to overcome the Ravens and Eagles in Weeks 5 and 6 respectively.

  1. At this rate I hope they stay in top 20.

  2. They gotta win Michael Wayne Allen. A road win over Oakland would be huge – Dez

  3. Why do people care about record rankings the NFL? Wins and losses are all that matters.
