Week 11 BES Rankings

The BES went 10-4 (.714) in Week 11 based on our Week 10 data. That’s potentially due to several teams gaining notable momentum as we embark on the season’s final stretch. Also, there was no change to the make up of the BES Top-10 this week, a first for 2016.

The Cowboys (9-1) extend their grip on the No. 1 spot to a third  consecutive week. However, their BES Overall score has dropped by .01 points, due in large to their unimpressive SOS of 1.93.  That will change after Week 12 when they host the Redskins (6-3-1) who will be the first BES Top-10 team they’ve faced since defeating the then No. 9-ranked Packers  in Week 6.

A win over the surging Redskins could provide the Cowboys some positive momentum before entering a dangerous road stretch against the Vikings (6-4) and Giants (7-3) in Weeks 13 and 14 respectively. That three-game span registers an average SOS of 2.57.

The Raiders (8-2) recaptured first place in the AFC West, the league’s strongest division, after beating the Texans (6-4) 27-20 in Week 11. The Raiders are enjoying a four-game winning streak highlighted by a dominant Week 9 outing against the Broncos (7-3), a critical divisional win that registered heavily with the BES.

The Raiders Pass Pro score of 3.40 and Point Yield score of 2.93  contribute to their No-4 placement in BES Offense. Meanwhile, they’ve landed at No. 13 in BES Defense, that unit’s highest ranking this season by far. The Raiders next two games will be at  home and offer further opportunities to gain ground on the Patriots (8-2) and Cowboys  in BES Overall.

Beyond the top-10, one team that certainly intrigues are the Buccaneers (5-5) ranking an impressive 13th in BES Overall this week. They also boast an offense ranked No. 10 by the BES and a defense ranked No. 6.Coming off a shocking 19-17 road victory over the Chiefs (7-3), the Buccaneers are proving to be legit contenders in the NFC South where they currently sit one game behind the Falcons (6-4) for first place.

Notably, the Buccaneers possess their own offensive triplets in quarterback Jameis Winston, receiver Mike Evans and explosive halfback Doug Martin who recently returned from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since Week 2. Add to that a young and tenacious defense and you suddenly have the ingredients for a potentially dangerous team worth keeping an eye on as we approach the playoffs.
