Week 16 BES Rankings

Learn more about the BES and read our FAQ

The BES has been quite accurate in the last two weeks with an 11-5 record in Weeks 15 and 16 when predicting winners based strictly on our rankings. With the regular season coming to an end, the BES is starting to settle down, purging all sub-.500 teams from the top-10.

This week we introduce yet another new occupant of the No. 1 spot in BES Overall. The Cardinals (13-2) are only the sixth different team to claim the top position, replacing the Panthers (14-1) who momentarily held that slot in our Week 15 rankings.

Of the six teams (Broncos, Patriots, Bengals, Chiefs, Panthers and Cardinals) who have been No. 1 in BES Overall, only the Broncos (11-4) and Chiefs (10-5) have yet to clinch a division title.  The winner of the AFC West will be decided in Week 17 with both hosting division rivals.

Of the teams in this week’s BES Top-10, the Steelers (9-6) and Jets (10-5) are the only clubs that have not yet secured a berth in the postseason. Both teams must win and/or need the other to lose in Week 17 in order to clinch the remaining playoff spot in the AFC.

In the NFC, only the North division title is still up for grabs with the Packers (10-5) hosting the Vikings (10-5) in Week 17 to decide its owner. Meanwhile, the Redskins (8-7) are first-time entrants into the BES Top-10 after clinching the NFC East.
